Man gets 5-year jail term for abetting wife to suicide

HYDERABAD: The Additional Sessions Judge Court on Tuesday sentenced a man, to five years of imprisonment for abetting his wife to commit suicide in October 2015.

Kambalapally Balraju, a tractor driver from Ibrahimpatnam, was accused of harassing his wife for dowry. The couple, who married 12 years ago, had three children.

On October 27, 2015, his wife Kambalapally Jangamma told Ibrahimpatnam police station that her husband was harassing her for dowry despite the fact that they had been married for 12 years.

His wife told police that Balraju was physically and mentally abusing her and had an illegal relationship with another woman. She had poured kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze due to unbearable harassment.

She was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. She died as a result of her injuries while undergoing treatment on October 30, 2015.

A case was registered at the Ibrahimpatnam police station under the relevant sections. During the course of the investigation, police inspectors collected evidence, arrested the accused, and remanded him in judicial custody.

Balaraju was sentenced to five years in prison by Additional Sessions Judge Indra on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
