ANANTAPUR: A TDP leader was detained by the police following the suicide of a minor girl in Anantapur district. The victim, who died by suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house in Errabelli of Tanakal mandal under the Kadiri constituency, blamed the local leader for her suicide.

Before taking the extreme step, she came up with a selfie video in which she alleged that Rallapalli Imtiyaz, a TDP leader of Tanakal, was sexually harassing her. Unable to bear the harassment, she ended her life.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Andhra Pradesh Women Commission demanded serious action against the accused leader. Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma urged the police authorities to speed up the investigation and insisted on strict action against the accused. She claimed that several TDP functionaries had been involved in a spate of sexual harassment cases in Anantapur and Sri Satya Sai district and squarely blamed former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for shielding such leaders.

"Chandrababu Naidu should have cracked the whip against the TDP leaders at the time of the Vinod Jain case in Vijayawada. The Women Commission will not tolerate such incidents. TDP leaders should be taught a lesson," said the commission chairperson.
