HYDERABAD: A seven-year-old boy was killed on the spot while three other children were injured after a tipper truck went astray and ran over a group of students in Ranga Reddy district on Friday. The incident occurred in Gollapally village of Chevella Mandal when the students were heading to their school.

The deceased was identified as seven-year-old Ritvik Goud, a 1st Class student in Krishnaveni school, Chevella. The injured students were shifted to Chevella Government hospital for treatment.

Enraged by the accident, the victim's family, parents of students and villagers squatted on the road and staged an impromptu protest, demanding justice. They wanted the authorities to either construct a foot-over-bridge or prohibit heavy vehicles like the tipper trucks plying on the stretch. They claimed that the stretch of the road had been prone to accidents and yet no safety measures were initiated either by the police or the authorities concerned.

Vehicular traffic came to a standstill due to the protest.
