SRIKAKULAM: A former sarpanch belonging to the YSRCP was hacked to death by his rivals in Srikakulam district, triggering tension locally on Tuesday. The body of Baratam Ramaseshu, who was hacked to death, was found in a pool of blood on the road in Duvvupeta.

Ramaseshu was a Vice MPP of Gara mandal and a former Sarpanch of Srikurmam village.

According to reports, Baratam Ramaseshu was waylaid at 6 am on Tuesday by three unidentified persons when he was heading to his godown, that was a kilometre away from Srikurmam. The miscreants hacked him to death right in the middle of the road.

Eye-witnesses from the vicinity of the crime scene claimed that the culprits came on a pulsar bike that significantly did not have the registration number plate on it. They said that one of them was wearing a helmet while the other two covered their faces to avoid being traced.

It is learnt that Ramaseshu was also actively associated with several businesses locally. He served as the sarpanch of Srikurmam thrice. Incidentally, this is the second attempt on his life which proved fatal for him. About six years ago, he was grievously injured after being attacked in a similar fashion.
