HYDERABAD: Dr Aleida Guevara, Cuban child rights advocate and the daughter of iconic revolutionary leader Che Guevara, will be felicitated in Hyderabad on January 22. Dr Aleida, who has recently arrived in India and is currently receiving medical treatment in Kerala, will be reaching the city on the same day of felicitation. She will be accompanied by her daughter Prof. Estefania Guevara.

The event will be organised at Ravindra Bharathi at 4 pm on January 22 and a large number of Hyderabad’s luminaries from all walks of life including politics are expected to grace the occasion. A solidarity committee, formed with the representatives of various political parties, has decided to extend a warm reception to the special invitee during the event. Prominent among the line-up of speakers at the felicitation programme are Telangana High Court judge Justice Radha Rani, Former Chief Secretary of undivided Andhra Pradesh Madhava Rao, Telangana State Planning Commission Vice-President Vinod Kumar, Prof. Santha Sinha, Prof. Haragopal and Prof. Nageswar. A host of political leaders of various parties will also address the meeting.

A pamphlet in connection with the felicitation of Dr Aleida Guevara was released at a press conference held at Maqdoom Bhavan in Himayat Nagar on Thursday. Senior Congress leader Mallu Ravi and the coordinators of the solidarity committee took part in the presser.

According to a report by Manorama, Dr Aleida Guevara and her daughter Estefania Guevara are currently receiving treatment at NS Ayurveda Hospital in Kollam. Incidentally, on January 6, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented the first Gouriamma award, instituted by the K R Gouriamma Foundation, at an event in Thiruvananthapuram.

Aleida Guevara March is the eldest daughter of four children born to Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara and his second wife, Aleida March. She has been an advocate for human rights and debt relief for developing nations. She is the author of the book Chávez, Venezuela and the New Latin America.
