HYDERABAD: Megastar Chiranjeevi-starrer "Adavi Donga" is used instead of anaesthesia to divert a patient from pain during a surgery. Sounds incredible? Yet, it's true.

Doctors of Secunderabad's Gandhi Hospital, who achieved the feat of performing a neurosurgery on a patient without administering anaesthesia, were pleasantly surprised when Megastar Chiranjeevi promised to visit the hospital.

The doctors found a lump in the brain of a 60-year-old patient's in Gandhi Hospital. The doctors attending on her decided to perform a neurosurgery and remove the lump. However, the doctors chose to perform the surgery without putting the patient to sleep by avoiding administering of anaesthesia.

Therefore, the neurosurgery department in consultation and close coordination with Anaesthesia department, has decided to perform the surgery adopting "awake craniotomy".

The website of Mayo Clinics explains: "Awake brain surgery, also called awake craniotomy, is a type of procedure performed on the brain" while a patient is awake and alert. Awake brain surgery is used to treat some brain (neurological) conditions, including some brain tumours or epileptic seizures, the website adds.

With a view to making sure that the surgical procedure is performed accurately, the awake craniotomy was chosen.

But, how to avoid pain? Even a small incision anywhere on the skin generates a lot of pain.

The doctors enquired about the passion and interests of the patient and showed Megastar Chiranjeevi-starrer Adavi Donga, a super hit movie of 1985, on a tab during the brain surgery. What's more? They engaged the patient in conversations too about the movie just to ensure she's not suffering from pain and also is fine with the two-hour-long procedure.

The team of doctors informed the media that the patient cooperated well with them during the surgery and that her family was very grateful for the successful surgery.

Learning that the patient was his diehard fan and that the doctors performed a surgery adopting a rare procedure on her, Megastar Chiranjeevi sent his PRO Anand to meet the hospital authorities and the patient.

Anand called on Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr Raja Rao and was introduced to the team of doctors who had performed the surgery. Anand met the patient, who is recuperating well and had Chiranjeevi speak to her over phone.

Delighted by her admiration for her and the doctors' gesture in showing the movie "Adavi Donga" to her, Chiranjeevi promised to visit the hospital and meet the doctors and the patient personally.

Awake craniotomy is getting Chiranjeevi to meet a patient at the hospital is making news on the internet.
