HYDERABAD: Roche Pharma has established a state-of-the-art Global Analytics and Technology Center of Excellence (GATE) in Hyderabad, which will be the second such facility in India, with the goal of providing innovative data-driven solutions.

The centre will collaborate with Roche's international affiliates to expand knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry, which helps to improve patient care, customer satisfaction, and business results. With the most recent expansion, GATE will have 100 employees overall by the end of 2022 and has expansion goals.

The announcement came following a meeting between Minister K T Rama Rao and V. Simpson Emmanuel, Managing Director and CEO of Roche Pharma. The meeting was also attended by Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, and Shakthi M Nagappan, Director Life Sciences, Government of Telangana.

Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao met Roche Chairman Christoph Franz at the World Economic Forum in 2020, as well as earlier this year in May, and spoke about Hyderabad's vibrant ecosystem. Roche, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, is the world's largest biotech company, offering truly differentiated medicines in oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, and central nervous system diseases. Roche is also the world leader in in vitro diagnostics and tissue-based cancer diagnostics, and a frontrunner in diabetes management. Founded in 1896, the company has a revenue of about USD 62 Bn and employs more than 100,000 people globally.

Minister K.T Rama Rao said that "I'm delighted to welcome Roche Pharma to Hyderabad, as they join the long list of marquee global companies, which have chosen Hyderabad to establish their global capability centers. Hyderabad has the best state-supported business ecosystems in the country and offers a unique blend of highly skilled talent pool, state of the art infrastructure and best quality of living in the country, thereby making us the preferred destination for Global Innovation and Capability Centers. I believe this partnership is strategic in nature and will help strengthen the relationship between Telangana (India in general) and Roche. I am confident that this center in Hyderabad will emerge as a significant contributor to Roche's global aspirations"

Roche Pharma Managing Director & CEO V. Simpson Emmanuel said, "India has always been a global leader when it comes to IT, analytics and data sciences. Roche is proud to partner and leverage on India's technology leadership by expanding the operation of GATE. We are developing Data Science and Advanced Analytics related capabilities at our GATE Centre in Hyderabad and will expand our offerings to include forecasting, data management, DevOps etc. in the future. Centres like GATE will also benefit the country by building a knowledge base in rapidly emerging areas of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning."
