HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway Zone (SCR) has achieved yet another milestone by increasing the maximum permissible speed of train services to 130 km per hour in the majority of Secunderabad, Vijayawada, and Guntakal Divisions. The Zone achieved this through a systematic and planned approach to strengthening the track and its infrastructure by removing bottlenecks in these sections at a rapid pace.

Following the RDSO/approval in Lucknow in the year 2020, these infrastructure development, maintenance, and signalling activities were carried out continuously. The sectional speed of train services on both the Up and Down lines of these sections can now be increased from 110 kmph to 130 kmph starting on September 12, 2022, thanks to major renovations in these sections.

This concept of rapid implementation applies to the districts of Gudur, Renigunta, Guntakal, and Wadi of Guntakal, as well as Secunderabad, Kazipet, Balharshah, Kondapalli, and Vijayawada. All of the SCR's High-Density, Golden Quadrilateral, and Golden Diagonal routes are included in these sections, with the exception of the section of the Golden Diagonal route between Vijayawada and Duvvada, where work is already well underway to adopt higher speeds.

According to SCR, the higher maximum speed limits in these areas are likely to result in faster average speeds for both passenger-carrying trains and freight trains. As a result, the trains will run more frequently. The sectional capacity of these vital and saturated regions will grow with the increase in the maximum permitted speed.

SCR General Manager, Arun Kumar Jain, has praised all of the officials and members of Team SCR for their relentless efforts in finishing all the necessary work to increase sectional speed to 130 Kmph. He claimed that the improvement in sectional speed sets the path for the smooth operation of railway services by significantly reducing the running time of passenger trains.
