HYDERABAD: Former Minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy, who has recently resigned to the Congress party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has run into rough weather. Manickam Tagore, Congress MP and incharge of party affairs in Telangana, has served a legal notice on Shashidhar Reddy on charges of defaming him.

Shashidhar Reddy, while announcing his decision to leave the party, made serious allegations that Manickam Tagore and AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal received monetary gains to appoint Revanth Reddy as the TPCC president.

The legal notice, dated December 1, 2022, was served on behalf of Manickam Tagore by his Madurai-based advocate Aravindan. The notice stated that Shashidhar Reddy was suspended from the Congress party by way of disciplinary action for anti-party activities after he announced his decision to resign from the party to join the BJP.

It said that, in his resignation letter addressed to then Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Shashidhar Reddy made 'highly objectionable and derogatory comments' against Manickam Tagore and AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal that the two had received monetary gains in the appointment of Revanth Reddy as the TPCC chief.

The Congress MP from Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu demanded an unconditional written apology from Shashidhar Reddy within a week for making baseless allegations and intentionally causing defamation to gain some political advantage.

"You are hereby required to withdraw the allegations made as against my client through the press conference and through the letter sent to the Congress President, by tendering an unconditional apology in writing to my client within a period of one week on receipt of the notice, failing which my client will be constrained to take appropriate legal action against you as per the Penal law besides civil action for damages," the legal notice read.

Shashidhar Reddy, the new entrant into the BJP, was yet to respond to the legal notice served by Manickam Tagore and what would be his future course of action with regard to this.
