After completing Intermediate from St. Mary's Junior College, he started pursuing MBBS in Gulbarga. He, however, studied medicine for just two years and quit the course to enter politics.

Owaisi has presided over the Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency from 1999, winning for the fifth consecutive term in 2018. He assumed the position of floor leader in Telangana Legislative Assembly in 2004.

M Seetharam Reddy (BRS)

Muppidi Seetharam Reddy completed his SSC from Chadarghat Government High School in 1987. He contested on a BRS ticket in the constituency in 2018 too and pollied 14,227 (10.14 per cent) votes.

Boya Nagesh (Congress)

The Congress has fielded a non-Muslim face in the constituency. He belongs to the Valmiki Boya community. Nagesh was elected as the Youth Congress president in Chandrayangutta Assembly in 2021. He gained recognition for his social service during the Covid pandemic.

Constituency information

  • From 1978-1994, Amanullah Khan won four times- thrice as an independent candidate, once as an AIMIM candidate and once as an MBT candidate. Akbaruddin Owaisi has been undefeated since 1999.
  • Except for the 1952 election, only Muslims have been winning this constituency.
  • There are 6 GHMC divisions under this constituency namely: Chandrayangutta, Barkas, Bandlaguda, Moin Bagh, Jangammet, Rakshapuram, Edi Bazar (part), Uppu Guda (part)

2014 Election Analysis

  • The AIMIM had gained considerable hold over Muslim voters across the State. Old City of Hyderabad which used to witness curfews regularly during the Congress regime, became peaceful now. The Muslims were happy with the BRS.
  • Sympathy votes helped Akbarudddin following the attack on him in 2011.
  • The Congress and the BRS were politically inactive. But since the BRS and the AIMIM have a political understanding, the pink party didn't influence voters in the constituency.

2018 Election Analysis

The AMIM has largely had a cakewalk in the Old City of Hyderabad given its large Muslim population. Akbaruddin was re-elected from Chandrayangutta constituency for the fifth consecutive term. He defeated his nearest rival Syed Shehzadi of the BJP by over 80,000 votes.

Key Local Issues

Not many are talking about civic issues including bad roads, overflowing drainage, mosquito menace and contaminated water in the Old City.
