Yennam Srinivas Reddy, a former Mahabubnagar MLA and Telangana activist with an MBA, previously worked in the revenue department.

He quit his job in 2002 to join the Telangana movement. In 2002, he began working on various issues affecting the district's citizens. In 2007, he was elected as the Mahabubnagar district president of the TRS.

Later, he joined the BJP and became vice-president of the Mahabubnagar BJP unit. He was later suspended by the BJP, which cited anti-party activities as the reason.

Constituency details

Geography

Mahabubnagar, formerly known as Rukmammapeta and Palamooru, is the largest district in Telangana in terms of area (5,285.1 square kilometres). The district headquarters town of Mahabubnagar was named after Mir Mahabub Ali Khan, the Nizam of Hyderabad. The district shares boundaries with Narayanapet, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.

Background

This Assembly constituency, which was established in 1952, was dominated by the Congress until 1983, since the TDP took control, and the BJP won a by-election to the Assembly in 2012.

2014 Assembly elections analysis

Srinivas Goud won the 2014 election on behalf of the TRS, defeating opposition candidates like Yennam Srinivas Reddy (BJP), Obedulla Kothwal (Congress), and independent candidate Syed Ibrahim.

He was supported in his victory by the support of government employees in Mahabubnagar and locals from the Hanwada mandal, as he is from Hanwada.

Due to his involvement in the Telangana movement, he also received consistent support from the youth of the Mahabubnagar Assembly constituency and students from Palamuru University.

He received enthusiastic support from BC communities such as Goud, Yadav, Mudhiraj, and others. Mahabubnagar is also known for its backing of BC candidates.

Yennam Srinivas Reddy's anti-incumbency in the 2012 elections weakened the opposition. The split of Muslim votes between Obedulla Kothwal of the Congress and Syed Ibrahim, an independent candidate, aided Srinivas Goud's victory.

2018 Assembly constituency analysis

Srinivas Goud, a Telangana minister, contested on behalf of the TRS in the 2018 elections. Former MLA and TDP-Congress alliance candidate Erra Shekar from Jadcherla was in opposition. The BC community, including Mudhiraj, Yadavs, Gouds, and Muslims, overwhelmingly supported the TRS.

The BC community, including Mudhiraj, Yadavs, Gouds, and Muslims, backed the TRS wholeheartedly. Despite the fact that the TDP's opposition candidate was from the Mudhiraj community and an Independent Muslim candidate, The TRS received a majority of the votes.

The failure of the TDP-Congress alliance, as well as a lack of vote transfer between the Congress and the TDP, all contributed to their defeat. Muslims' dissatisfaction with the Congress' rejection to offer Obedhulla Kothwal a ticket resulted in votes for the TRS and independent Syed Ibrahim.

Being a non-resident of the Mahabubnagar Assembly was a disadvantage for the TDP candidate, and money was also a factor in the elections.

The TRS's development activities influenced Srinivas Goud's victory, including the expansion of National Highway 163, the construction of 1,200 double bedrooms in Divitipally, MBBS college, Appannapally railway overbridge, and the development of Mayuri Park.

The expansion of the Mahabubnagar-Jadcherla highway supported the TRS's success. The unveiling of the foundation stone for an IT park in Mahabubnagar by Srinivas Goud was a significant factor in the 2018 election victory.

Current situation

Srinivas Goud, a sitting MLA in Mahabubnagar and Shadnagar, has faced numerous allegations of land grabbing.

Srikanth Goud, Srinivas Goud's brother, recently occupied a family's land, according to Q News Mallanna. Obedulla Kothwal, the Congress candidate, has been very active in recent days, especially since Revanth Reddy was elected president of the TPCC.
