NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) to transfer Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat immediately.

A delegation of BJP leaders including its National General Secretary incharge of Telangana Tarun Chugh met the ECI authorities here and submitted a representation to this effect. The BJP, in its representation, contended that the officer's continuation in the same constituency limits since 2016 was a violation of ECI's guidelines.

Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan, BJP National Executive member Pratap Chandra Sarangi and BJP Hyderabad Unit chief N Ramchander Rao signed on the representation.

The BJP leaders, while speaking to the media after meeting the ECI authorities, alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was behind the enrolment of around 25,000 fake voters in the Munugode Assembly constituency destined for a by-election. They said that in the earlier by-elections there were only around 2,000 voters. However, for this by-elections many new voters were registered. These new voters are fake, they claimed.

The BJP representatives also said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao shifted the Secretariat to Munugode and alleged that the latter was misusing his powers.
