HYDERABAD: After a 14-year-long wait, the Telangana High Court on Friday gave good news to 2008 DSC candidates by delivering a crucial judgment, directing the State Government to fill up teacher vacancies for the notification that was issued in the erstwhile unified Andhra Pradesh. The state government was directed to fill 1,815 vacant posts with eligible merit candidates.

The High Court, during several hearings in the past, has found that as many as 3,500 posts were not filled up as part of the notification issued in the erstwhile unified Andhra Pradesh. Of these, 1,800 posts belong to Telangana.

The undivided Andhra Pradesh government has issued a DSC notification in 2008 to fill a total of 30,558 vacancies in the then combined state and allocated 30 percent of the posts to D.ED candidates in 2009. Challenging this, 69 BED candidates filed a petition in the High Court.

However, the High Court, without going against the government's decision to allocate 30 percent of posts to DED candidates, found that after the bifurcation of the state, the posts belonging to AP were filled on a contract basis while 1,815 posts belonging to Telangana were not yet filled up. The court on Friday delivered its final verdict directing the Telangana government to fill up these posts with merit candidates.
