HYDERABAD: Monday saw the hashtag #Justice_4_RajaSingh trending on Twitter as his supporters and ardent followers tweeted in support of Telangana BJP MLA, Raja Singh, who is now being held in Hyderabad's Cherlapally Jail.

Raja Singh, a BJP lawmaker, was arrested once again by the Hyderabad City Police on Thursday. He has had 101 complaints filed against him since 2004, of which 18 are for communal offences, and has been arrested under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act.

The MLA was apprehended by Hyderabad city police from his home in Mangalhat amidst intense security and ongoing protests for his re-arrest for reportedly uttering disparaging remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. Raja Singh is accused by Hyderabad police of often giving inflammatory and provocative comments, dividing communities, and causing public disorder.

Many Hyderabadi's, AIMIM supporters, and Munwar Faruqui fans have voiced their delight over his arrest. Raja Singh followers, on the other hand, were outraged by his arrest and began asking for his release. People have therefore started using Twitter to call for his release.

One of an ardent Hindu supporter's tweets on Raja Singh's arrest read, "Raja Singh, a BJP state legislator, was taken into custody. Never before is such swift punishment taken against individuals who denigrate Hindu deities ".

Meanwhile, MLA Raja Singh's lawyer, K Karuna Sagar, filed an appeal with the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court in response to threats made against him for representing Raja Singh's case. He requested that the police grant police security to himself due to an impending threat to his life as a result of his representation of MLA Raja Singh in his recent Hate speech case.

K Karuna Sagar, MLA Raja Singh's lawyer, told NewsTAP that he is doing everything necessary to secure bail for Raja Singh.
