HYDERABAD: Former Health Minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Tuesday slammed the Congress government's approach to staff nurse recruitment, calling it a distraction from unfulfilled promises.

He expressed disappointment that instead of focusing on the promised timeline, the government was rushing to hire staff nurses. He urged the government to keep its election promises and not divert attention towards early appointments.

Harish Rao cited the BRS government's efforts to improve Telangana's medical sector by approving medical colleges and constructing numerous hospitals. He emphasised that the recruitment of medical, nursing, paramedical, pharmacist, and other staff was underway. A notification for 5,204 staff nurse posts was issued on December 30, 2022, and an order was released on June 22, 2023, adding 1,890 posts, thereby increasing the total to 7,094.

Regarding the Congress's job announcements, Harish Rao demanded that they fulfill their promise to fill 2 lakh positions within a year. He referred to the Congress's work calendar promises, which included Group 1 notice on February 1, Group 2 on April 1, and Group 3 and 4 appointments on June 1. Rao sought justice for job seekers and students who waited for the Congress to fulfill its promises.

He greeted the selected staff nurses and wished them success in providing good service. He hailed the Telangana Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB) for successfully filling all 7,094 staff nursing positions.

Harish Rao expressed concern at the Congress government's refusal to recognize elevated titles granted by the BRS government to nursing positions, such as nursing officer and senior nursing officer, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging these changes.

Harish Rao demanded accountability and transparency in the Congress government's actions and asked them to prioritize keeping the promises made to the people. He emphasised the significance of responsive and accountable governance that actually meets the demands of the people.
