Student suicide driven by personal reasons: IIIT Basar VC

Professor Venkatarama expressed his condolences to the family of the student and said that the incident was extremely unfortunate

HYDERABAD: Prof. V Venkata Ramana, Vice Chancellor of IIIT Basar, sought to clarify that Bhanu Prasad, a student who died by suicide, took the extreme step, purely driven by personal reasons. He also denied reports of student launching into protests on the campus following the suicide and maintained that classes were being held as usual and in a peaceful manner on Monday.

Professor Venkatarama expressed his condolences to the family of the student and said that the incident was extremely unfortunate. The student who died by suicide did so solely for personal reasons. False propaganda about student protests following the suicide had been widely circulated on social media, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor reassured the students and their parents that the authorities were doing everything possible to ensure that the students received quality education, housing and facilities.

He felt that any issues encountered by students should be brought to the attention of the officials and counsellors.

Director Prof. Satish Kumar said that the morning assembly was held as part of the daily activities and that classes were held peacefully. He said that the students were attending their classes and laboratories.
