HYDERABAD: The Mission Bhagiratha scheme, which provides purified potable water through taps to every household in Telangana, was conferred with the Union Government Jal Jeevan Mission Award on Wednesday. The scheme had also received National Water Mission award in 2019.

A Central team from the Jal Jeevan Mission had reviewed the scheme. A national level independent organisation had also selected 360 villages in the State and conducted a review. They checked for quality, quantity and people's opinions.

It was found that each household was getting 100 litres of per capita quality drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha proving that the scheme was excelling both quality and quantity wise. Considering this, Telangana has been recognized as number one state in the country in the 'Regularity Category' and has been selected for the Jal Jeevan Mission Award.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's brainchild - Mission Bhagiratha scheme , provided safe drinking water to every household in the State, including tribal habitations in the remote, forest and hilly areas.

The "Mission Bhagiratha" scheme stood as a role model for the entire country by providing purified drinking water to every house through a tap.

The Union invited the Telangana government to receive the award in Delhi on October 2.
