Telangana leads by example in treating the disabled, says KCR

HYDERABAD: No human being is perfect in this world, and overcoming obstacles with confidence is the only way to achieve perfection, said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday.

On the occasion of the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities" on Saturday, Chief Minister KCR greeted the "specially abled."

The Chief Minister urged disabled people to overcome their self-doubt and succeed in their endeavours.

The chief minister said that the state government stood by disabled people in need of assistance, and that Telangana State has set an example for the country in terms of welfare of the disabled.

The Chief Minister recalled that Telangana State had been recognised as the best state in terms of disabled welfare and had received awards from the Union Government. Chief Minister KCR stated that the state government created the Department for Disabled Welfare as an independent and special wing from the Women and Child Welfare department in order to pay special attention to Disabled Welfare.

According to the Chief Minister, the Telangana government gives every disabled person in every family a monthly stipend of Rs 3,016 in order to boost their confidence.

The government had only offered pensions worth Rs 500 in undivided Andhra Pradesh

In addition to the Double Bed Room and Dalit Bandhu programs, Chief Minister KCR stated that the government provides 5 percent reservation in various programmes and 4 percent reservation in employment recruitment to the disabled.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government also provides free coaching and study materials to the disabled who are preparing for competitive exams, as well as special allowances in the services, an Advisory Board for disabled people, and the establishment of a special website to receive complaints.

The Chief Minister said that the government is working to remove the obstacles that the disabled face in their daily lives by providing necessary wheelchairs, three-wheeler scooters, crutches, and so on.

In addition to establishing Ashram Schools and Hostels to provide special education to the disabled, the Chief Minister said that the state government encourages disabled students by offering pre-matric and post-matric scholarships.

Chief Minister KCR stated that the state government is implementing all necessary programmes to boost self-esteem, self-confidence, and the empowerment of the disabled wherever possible.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government is planning to implement a slew of programmes aimed at the welfare of the disabled in the coming days. On this occasion, Chief Minister KCR urged everyone in society to support the disabled as fellow citizens and work toward their empowerment.
