HYDERABAD: Consequent upon the High Court direction striking down the Central Administrative Tribunal that allowed Somesh Kumar to continue in Telangana, swift developments are taking place.

Towards the evening, the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued an order relieving Somesh Kumar, acting on the High Court order.

He was asked to report for duty in Andhra Pradesh by Thursday. Accordingly, a copy of the order was sent to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.

While Somesh Kumar would officially retire on December 31, 2023, grapevine has it that he was not interested in going and reporting in AP. In fact, Somesh Kumar superseded six senior IAS officers to become the Chief Secretary.

While Somesh Kumar was closeted with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for over three hours, it is speculated that Special Chief Secretary for Municipal Administration & Urban Development Arvind Kumar and Special Chief Secretary for Finance K Ramakrishna Rao are said to be in the race. Both these officers belong to 1991 batch of the IAS. Another officer Rajat Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of Irrigation, is also there in the seniority list as he also belongs to 1991 batch.
