HYDERABAD: Heavy rain is predicted by the weather department and weather watchers in and around Hyderabad on all directions. The sky is already overcast and the clouds are likely to enter the city from the south zone in Ibrahimpatnam-Shamshabad side and spread all over.

Hyderabad's Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) issues a traffic alert.

As heavy rain is likely during the peak traffic time ( 9 am-11 am), there could be heavy traffic jams post rain especially immediately one or two hours after the rain stops.

"Please be watchful of the alerts issued by traffic police on its social media/ FM channels/ Electronic media etc.

"All commuters are requested NOT to immediately start your journey after the stoppage of rain.

"Please wait for 1-2 hours for the rainwater to drain out and also for the traffic congestion resulting from heavy rain to ease out. Avoid unnecessary or not-so-important travel/ journeys.

"Otherwise, the commuters would be adding to the problem and aggravating it," said the Jt CP in a statement.

Weather enthusiast "Telangana Weatherman" has been alerting people with his tweets in the last two hours since 6 am. He tweeted at 8.20 am saying: "Dear people of Hyderabad.. A HUGE RAIN is directly moving into Hyderabad city. SEVERE DOWNPOUR with thunderstorms ahead in entire city. This is serious update, STAY SAFE ⚠️⚠️

#HyderabadRains."

It began raining in Habsiguda area already.
