HYDERABAD: A SpiceJet flight from Goa to Hyderabad announced a full-scale emergency on Wednesday night. However, the aircraft made a safe landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), even as the passengers were tensed up.

The cause for the full-scale emergency was that smoke had erupted in the cockpit.

According to reports, a full-scale emergency was declared at 10:52 p.m. on SpiceJet flight no. SG-3735, which was flying from Goa to Hyderabad, with 86 passengers on board.

The plane made landed after the Systems Operations Control Center(SOCC) received a message from the Airport Operation Control Center(AOCC) via Air Traffic Control (ATC) indicating a full-scale emergency.

All relevant agencies were promptly notified. Furthermore, at approximately 10:58 p.m., the flight landed safely and the withdrawal of a full-scale emergency alert was initiated.

Reports state that the incident caused fear among the passengers and that a female passenger became ill due to smoke.

In addition, nine flights were reportedly diverted to other cities as a result of the precarious situation and a supposed 'emergency landing'. Six domestic flights, two international flights, and one cargo flight were forced to divert to other airports.

SpiceJet, however, hasn't made any official announcement on the incident. Newstap.in tweeted asking for the response of the SpiceJet officials and by the time of publication of this news, no response was received.
