HYDERABAD: In a display of dissent, local residents, predominantly women.of Boduppal in Medchal district, have initiated a three-day dharna to protest against the presence of a newly-established Sri Sindura Wines on the main road of Boduppal. The women leading the protest have put forth their demands, urging the removal of the wine shop due to alleged irregularities in its establishment.

The primary concern raised by the protesting women pertain to the purported violations, including the acquisition of permission without citing the purpose that it was meant for a wine shop in the residential area, unauthorised construction, and alleged illegalities around the establishment of Sri Sindura Wines.

The protesting women contended that the land on which the wine shop stood belonged to Telangana State Waqf Board, which had obtaineda stay from the High Court preventing any construction on the disputed property.

The protesters directed their ire at the Boduppal Municipal Corporation's town planning officials, who allegedly granted permission for the construction on the disputed land, despite the place being entangled in a legal wrangle.

Despite the lodging of approximately 80 complaints at Praja Bhavan during Praja Vani programme, efforts to address the issue with Excise Minister, Excise Commissioner, and Municipal Corporation officials did not yield any result, prompting the residents to escalate their protests.

In a bid to find a resolution to the problem, the residents from the affected apartment complex and neighbouring colonies called on the commissioner and mayor prior to launching the third day of the dharna. Following discussions and an on-site inspection by town planning officials, the commissioner assured the community of a resolution within two days. They promised them that the concern would be addressed as soon as possible.
