Case booked against Majlis leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for threatening police on bandobast duty

HYDERABAD: Santoshnagar police booked a case against Chandrayangutta legislator and AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Wednesday under different sections for allegedly threatening police on bandobast duty in Moinbagh near Unique school, Santoshnagar.

According to the complaint filed by P. Shiva Chandra, Inspector of Police, PS Santoshnagar, he along with CH. Ravi and R.C. Maddileti were assigned to provide bandobast at a Majlis party public meeting on Tuesday night where Akbaruddin Owaisi was addressing an election-related meeting.

The CI tried to alert the Majlis leader who was addressing a crowd that it was almost 10 pm and he should follow the model code of conduct laid down by the election commission. However, Akbaruddin in a fit of rage, pointed at the police officer and threatened him.

“I have a watch, I can see. Do you think that after facing knives and bullets, I got weak, but still there's lots of courage in me. Five minutes are left and I'll address five minutes. No one is born yet to stop me. If I give a signal, then you'll have to run. Shall we make him run? This RSS man, Tillu, will run. What happened to Kiran? This is what I'm saying, they come after you like this only to weaken us," Akbaruddin said.

The police seeking action against the MLA said that he obstructed their legitimate duties and created enmity between two religious groups in a public meeting during the General Assembly Elections 2023. A case was booked under sections 353, 506, 153 (A), 505 (2) IPC & Sec. 125 RP Act.

Akbaruddin, the younger brother of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory language against a particular community during his public speeches at Nizamabad on December 8, 2012, and at Nirmal town on December 22, 2012. However, a court in Hyderabad in April 2022 acquitted him citing insufficient evidence.

Akbaruddin clarifies

Speaking to media on Wednesday, Akbaruddin said that he had not violated the MCC and explained that the police officer tried to enter the stage where he was addressing a crowd. “He then made gestures showing his watch. The fact is that I had not crossed 10 pm, there were still a few more minutes left. If he can make a gesture then I will also make gestures,” he said. He said that the police were lying and he had video footage to prove his innocence.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi coming to the rescue of his younger brother said that the opposition parties were in praise of the police for their overaction in the Old City. “If I say that a particular officer was good, will the opposition parties appreciate that? They will say that the police are favouring the Majlis, and demand action agsint that officer,” Asadduddin said.
