HYDERABAD: YS Sharmila, the founder of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), was arrested by Warangal police on Monday during her ongoing 'Praja Prasthanam Padayatra'. She was reportedly arrested as a result of a law and order issue in Chennaraopet mandal in Warangal district.

According to reports, an altercation transpired between YSR Telangana party workers and police officers. It all started, when the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) on Monday claimed that members of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) attacked and set fire to the caravan in which YS Sharmila was resting during her ongoing Praja Prasthanam Padayatra.

YSRTP leaders even claimed in an official statement that TRS men attempted to physically harm their party activists and tore banners, posters, and party flags at Katikanapalli. The incident occurred when Y S Sharmila was participating on the 223rd day of her Padayatra.

She spoke to the media and questioned the police about the circumstances surrounding her arrest while she was being held. She even questioned the police, demanding to know why the victim and not the accused was being taken into custody.

"I strongly object to my arrest and demand that the accused be arrested instead. What right do you have to arrest me when I'm the one who protested against them", YS Sharmila questioned.
