UoH professor charged with attempting to rape a foreign student

HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus, a professor allegedly attempted to rape an international student.

The professor has been identified as Ravi Ranjan, a faculty member in the University of Hyderabad's Department of Hindi, School of Humanities.

According to reports, the student filed a complaint against Professor Ravi Ranjan at the Gachibowli police station. Reportedly, the incident took place on December 2, 2022.

Professor Ravi Ranjan, who has been with the University of Hyderabad since 2013, was also a visiting professor of Hindi at Uniwersytet Warszawski in Warsaw, Poland. He was sent on a one-year deputation by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, India, New Delhi, on November 4, 2015.

This incident has shocked not only the students, but also the entire University administration. The University, which has confirmed the incident, is investigating further and attempting to learn more about it.

A senior university official expressed shock at the incident and stated that if the accused is arrested, he may be automatically expelled from the university.

According to reports, a case has been filed against the accused at Gachibowli police station under the relevant sections. However, the police have not yet confirmed this.
