HYDERABAD: Union Minister and BJP Telangana president G Kishan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the Congress Government's Abhaya Hastham scheme, accusing it of being a mere political ploy and a waste of time for the public. In a media conference at the BJP headquarters here on Thursday, Kishan Reddy questioned the need for applications when fulfilling election promises was possible without such hurdles.

"The Congress Government is creating confusion and wasting time of the public in the name of Abhaya Hastham applications. It is possible to uphold guarantees without the need for such applications. Abhaya Hastham forms are being implemented only to serve a political purpose," he said.

"The Congress is propagating that people will receive benefits of the six guarantees only if they apply in the new forms. The intention of the Congress Government is only to delay the implementation of the schemes," he added.

Questioning the needs for seeking details of beneficiaries, Kishan Reddy asked, "No ration cards were issued during the last ten years of the BRS Government. Why is the Congress Government now asking for submitting ration card details? What is the motive behind asking for FIR and other documents details of those who went to jail during the Telangana movement? All the details of such activists are already with the Government.

"The Congress has promised to pay Rs 2,500 per month to women as part of the Mahalakshmi scheme. There is no clarity if it will give money to all women or to only those below poverty line? The Central Government is already providing Rs 6,000 incentive for farmers. Why should they apply again for Rythu Bandhu when data about the beneficiaries is already available?

"The Congress Government has no interest in delivering benefits except to ask people to run behind Congress MLAs in the name of applications till the upcoming Parliamentary elections," Kishan Reddy said.

The Telangana BJP president also questioned why the Congress Government was not intent on a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project.

"While the BJP asked for CBI investigation for alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, why is the Congress not keen on it? The Congress Government wants to save former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) by wasting time in the name of judicial inquiry," Kishan Reddy alleged and said that KCR had earlier worked as a Union Minister in the Congress Government.
