HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader and former Minister Kadiam Srihari urged the Government to immediately take up repairs to the Medigadda Barrage in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and prepare the ayacut for the ensuing monsoon.

Speaking on the interim budget in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Srihari said that while the BRS had no objection to the inquiry on the tragic sagging of pillars of the Medigadda Barrage, the Government must get ready for the heavy inflows during the ensuing monsoon. “While we all have witnessed the damage to three pillars of the Medigadda Barrage, the Government must swing into action now before it is too late. Construct a coffer dam, drain out water, and let the contractor take up repairs,” he said.

Kadiam Srihari said that if the Government failed to undertake repairs in time there could loss of Kharif season due to the non-availability of water to the Kaleshwaram ayacut. He reiterated that the Government could go ahead and investigate the reasons behind the sagging of the pillars of the Barrage and take action against anyone responsible for the damage.

He also questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for not counting the lakhs of acres of ayacut that the Kaleshwaram project had stabilised and only taking up the 98,570 acres of new ayacut the project had created.
