Heavy rains bring traffic to grinding halt in Hyderabad

With the heavy down pour that ranged from 8.5 cm in Secunderabad to 10.8 cm in Sherilingampally, the city has come to a standstill.

HYDERABAD: With the heavy down pour that ranged from 8.5 cm in Secunderabad to 10.8 cm in Sherilingampally, the city has come to a standstill.

The city is gridlocked with traffic on all sides of the city. The city police who are busy with election work are suddenly diverted to traffic duties.

However, their presence is hardly felt at any important junction.

Punjagutta flyover was blocked due to water stagnation on it and vehicles halted as there was hardly any scope for movement.

The Hitech City area experienced a bad traffic jam owing to the downpour.

It took two hours to reach Jubilee Hills to Somajiguda.

Traffic remained standstill opposite Praja Bhavan where the Deputy Chief Minister lives.

Traffic came to a grinding halt in LB Nagar, Punjagutta to Erragadda, Mettugud to Uppal and Kukatpally stretch too.

The Ameenpur lake with waves seemed like a sea.

Though the rain gave a respite from the sweltering heat, the traffic problem hit the city badly. Added to that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were passing by Begumpet airport adding to the traffic woes of commuters.

The rain began at 5.30 pm and did not stop even at 10 pm.

Reports suggest that seven people were killed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Despite rain, BRS working president KTR continued his campaign in the evening in the city.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy cancelled his Karimnagar roadshow but continued his Warangal roadshow.
