World Earth Day: Switch off all non-essential lights for one hour says WWF
In India people participate in this endeavour with enthusiasm by shutting off the lights of iconic landmarks, public and private institutions, businesses, and communities expressing solidarity with the global initiative.
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Pollution Control Board gave a call to the citizens to switch off non-essential electric appliances for an hour on Saturday night from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm honouring the worldwide initiative of conserving energy for the sake of the planet.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) also urged the people to make Earth Hour the biggest hour for the planet. “On Earth Hour Day, millions of people, landmarks, businesses, and monuments will switch off for an hour to spread the message of conservation and sustainability. We cannot afford to miss this moment of collective action,” the WWF-India said in a message.
Accordingly, Indians from Kashmir to Kanyakumari would switch off all non-essential lights on March 23, 2024, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. In all 190 countries participate in the Earth Hour global grassroots movement, uniting the planet. People come together and shut down lights for an hour in a show of strength.
