HYDERABAD: At least two persons, including a woman, died while six others were hospitalised with serious illnesses after drinking contaminated water in Mailardevpally of Hyderabad in the last two days. The condition of one of those hospitalised, a six-month-old baby, is said to be critical. The victims are from Mughal Colony in Mailardevpally where there have been complaints from the residents about the supply of unsafe, contaminated water for quite some time.

Afreen Sultana, a 22-year-old woman, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital. She became the latest casualty in the tragedy following the death of a youngster, Mohammed Khaiser, on Tuesday. The local residents blamed their deaths on the negligence of the authorities who, they alleged, failed to check frequent contamination of drinking water.

Azharuddin, Shamreen Begum, R P Singh, Shahzadi Begum, Ittheshamuddin and Faiza Begum are the ones being treated at a hospital. Faiza Begum, a six-month-old baby girl, is incidentally the daughter of Afreen Sultana, who succumbed on Wednesday. The infant's condition is also stated to be critical.
