MANGALAGIRI: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy changed his style. Departing from his usual style of referring to the prepared text, he began extempore and he nailed the double standards of Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Interacting with handloom weavers at CK Convention centre in Magalagiri, as a part of ‘Memantha Siddham Yatra’ on Saturday he said that Naidu never practiced what he preached when it came to allocating seats to backward classes (BCs) in those constituencies where they were in large numbers such as Mangalagiri and Kuppam.

"What exactly are Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Lokesh, up to? They've always overlooked BC candidates in areas with a significant BC population. Moreover, in Mangalagiri, they've nominated themselves, spending huge amounts of money, unfairly vying for our seats,” Jagan said.

Even in Kuppam, where BCs form a majority Chandrababu Naidu took the seat and had been spending crores of money on his victory, neglecting the BCs in his constituency, Jagan observed.

He said that the YSRCP nominated 50 percent of the 200 MLA and MP seats in the State to candidates from backward classes. "I’m proud to say that your child has nominated a BC candidate in Kuppam," he said.

Seven municipal chairmen in the state are handloom weavers, and in Mangalagiri, out of 1,20,180 houses, 1,08,408 receive benefits from our various welfare schemes, which is 90.1 percent of the households, the CM said.

“When we elect a leader, he or she has the responsibility of changing the lives of the poor. Look at the 2014 manifesto of Chandrababu Naidu and his alliance promises to handloom weavers… they haven’t scored even 2 out of 100 marks,” Jagan said.

He went on highlighting Chandrababu’s failed promises like property tax exemption for handloom cooperative societies, ID card for the loom workers, 1 lakh corporate loan facility, the special fund (budget allocation) of Rs. 1,000 crore for handloom weavers, free health insurance for weavers, increase in pension, district level centers to help the weavers marketing the products, Handloom Park, which was not fulfilled.

“In the last 58 months, we have spent over Rs. 3,706 Cr for handloom weavers, without any corruption, or middlemen and in a transparent manner. Through YSR Nethanna Nestham, we have spent over Rs. 970 crores benefiting 1,00,006 weavers. Over 94,410 handloom weavers’ families are taking pensions at their doorsteps," he said.
